Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles mourns the loss to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
