Supporters Urge Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of Ariana Grande are calling for that a man who leaped a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also faulted guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had assembled in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the acclaimed stage show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two very different sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, winning a pair for best costume and set decoration.
