Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
