People have gathered throughout the country to remember two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled state memorials until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still took place across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of people who died in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed around the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the talks revealed that an night meeting of negotiations began at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the day's discussions ended without concrete outcomes, due to differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He noted that the negotiations are "challenging and have not yet achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are striving to close the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance provision
  • Future management of the area

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose family member endured the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were abducted by Hamas militants - explained: "No place appears as home anymore and until every captive come back none of us will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can relax once more. Then we can start to heal," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the families of the captives. Israel says forty-eight stay in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Protester Atalia Regev remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement needed for the abducted to be released. But we sincerely need promises that we will be protected."

Surveys now regularly indicate that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the war to finish in exchange for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the music event, those paying respects gathered to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers said the severe Israeli attacks carried on.

In the urban center, bombardments were documented in the dawn of that day in the west side district, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening arrives, the anxiety comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, explained.

"We are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my youngest child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area said additional fatalities had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli forces while seeking help to the south, medics said.

Gaza's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
