Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series since 1993 by beating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now slugged 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
