Both Deceased Students Identified in the Ivy League School Attack as Police Continue Manhunt for Killer.

Two students who were killed in the recent tragic incident in Providence were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the release by Rhode Island officials of the sole person questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow online, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine other people were wounded in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a raid at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our city”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source told the media outlet.

Officers that searched the hotel seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was arrested, according to reports.

Condition of the Injured
