Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:
- Each team has just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
